FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What does PNW Assistive Technology do?+

We design and build adaptive ride-on cars and toys for children with disabilities. Each build is customized to match the child's needs and abilities.

Why is early mobility important?+

Early independent movement supports cognitive, social, and emotional development. It allows children to explore, make choices, and interact with their environment in meaningful ways.

Are there medical studies that support the effectiveness of your products?+

Yes. Medical studies show that early independent movement reduces secondary medical complications like muscle atrophy, joint contractures, and severe depression — significantly lowering long-term healthcare costs. See the research links on this page.

What types of cars do you offer?+

We currently have seven Wayfinder™ models designed to accommodate a range of sizes, abilities, and control needs — for children from 6 months old through 8 years of age.

How much does a Wayfinder™ cost?+

Most builds start with a standard ride-on toy costing about $100, with modifications bringing the total to approximately $330 to $750 depending on complexity and a child's particular needs. We provide them at no cost to families.

Why not use a wheelchair?+

Our adapted vehicles provide autonomy, agency, playtime, and improved social integration. Traditional power wheelchairs are expensive and typically not available for very young children. Adapted cars provide an affordable, early mobility solution.

Can others replicate this work?+

Yes. We provide instructions so families, volunteers, and organizations can build similar adaptive solutions in their own communities.

How can I help?+

You can support us by donating, sponsoring builds, volunteering, or sharing our mission with others.
