About
Bridging the gap between medical equipment and play.
Our mission
PNW Assistive Technology is firmly dedicated to increasing mobility and independence for children with disabilities through the modification of ride-on cars and adaptive toys. We transform standard ride-on cars into life-changing mobility tools, bridging the gap between "medical equipment" and "play."
Independent movement is more than just getting from one place to another. Research shows that self-directed mobility plays a critical role in early childhood development — supporting cognitive growth, social interaction, motor skills, language development, and emotional confidence. Being carried or pushed does not offer the same developmental benefits as active exploration.
The impact of PNW Assistive Technology
Through our modified toys, families begin a journey of empowerment — one where small milestones become life-changing moments. Each car we build represents more than a device. It represents a child moving independently for the first time, a parent seeing new possibilities, and a familial shift from limitation to capability.
We have served families throughout Oregon, with growing demand as awareness increases among healthcare providers, therapists, and parents. Our goals:
- Expand access to underserved areas.
- Increase production capacity to reduce wait times.
- Continually develop new Wayfinder™ models — we currently have seven in production.
- Grow our open-source library so others can replicate our work.
Our goal is not simply to meet demand, but to multiply our impact by empowering others to build alongside us.
How we differ from Go Baby Go
A college in Delaware pioneered similar work years ago under the name Go Baby Go, and the broader community freely shares information. PNW Assistive Technology is a distinct Oregon nonprofit with our own engineering team, our own electrical architecture (including our plug-and-play drive board), and our own trademarked vehicle line — the Wayfinder™ series.
